A New Way to Store Spices

Spice packs in an organized container

It’s Time to Rethink Your Spice Cabinet

There’s a reason spice organization is such a popular topic for DIY blogs and home supply stores alike: It’s a major kitchen pain point, especially for homes with limited space. And while there are hundreds of hacks out there, none have realistically made storing spices that much easier. That’s why we started thinking outside the traditional jar, and we think our Flatpack might change the way you store spices.

More Space for More Spices

Our Flatpacks are lighter and more compact, meaning they help you save space. Lying flat, they can neatly tuck into a drawer, or they can stand upright on a shelf. We’ve also created a custom, wooden Flatpack holder, which organizes them in a way that’s easy to store on your counter or take in and out of a cabinet.

Find What You Need—In Half the Time

Simply put, it’s annoying to pull ten jars out of a cabinet to find the one spice you need. Flipping through a row of Flatpacks is easier, especially since they have large, easy-to-read labels. (Bonus: They are just as beautiful as our jars.) And with the holder, it is easy to store your spices in a way that makes the most sense to you—alphabetically, by cuisine or by how often you use them.

They’re Just as Convenient to Use

When you pop the gusset at the bottom of the Flatpack, it easily stands upright on your counter, and the large opening makes measuring a breeze. When you’re done, it seals up tightly, keeping your spices fresh and flavorful.

And Don’t Forget: Free Shipping!

More compact means easier to ship, so any Flatpack order ships for free, even if you only order one spice. So there’s no need to wait to reach a shipping minimum to reorder the spices you need.

Hi Jo Ann,

Glass jars, are the best container for spices especially if you’re in a humid climate.

However, our Flatpacks seal tightly and are lined to contain aromas and preserve volatile oils.

When stored in a place that is cool, dry, and out direct sunlight, Flatpacks will keep your spices fresh for close to the same time as a jar would. We recommend storing your spices in a closed cabinet away from your oven/stove.

I really love the flatpacks. I’ve saved jars from previous orders and now can just order flat packs to refill the jars. But I do like the idea of just going flatpack. Gotta admit though, I like my jars!

Do spices stay fresher longer when stored in jars? Do spices stay fresh in flat packs as long as they do in jars?

Hi BarreM,

The gusset is the little space at the bottom of the Flatpack. You can spread it open to give the Flatpack “legs” to stand upright on your counter or in your cabinet.

I may be opening my flatpacks incorrectly. Please explain what “popping the gusset” means. I am using kitchen scissors to cut across top of the packet in order to open at its seam.

Thanks.

I absolutely love your flat packs! If I could change one thing, I wish the label for the contents could peel away from the pack for my old jars. Your spices are the best, freshest & highest quality available. Won’t be using anything else!!!

While I LOVE your flat packs—I find after several uses they don’t seal as well—we’re messy cooks and there are time when fingers & space can wet causing both the seal to clump or a spill getting on the paper. Have you thought about a more permanent type of flat pack (EASY to open, another issue for us older peeps) in a silicone w an external pocket to slide an herb sign for identification? Maybe Grommet could help you w a design? Would LOVE if were eco friendly etc. Love your spices & flat packs—more companies should follow your lead—I hope they’re TM registered!

Hi Petra,

The best container for spices is a glass jar, especially if you’re in a humid climate.

Whatever container you store your spices in, make sure to keep them somewhere cool, dry, and out direct sunlight. We recommend storing your spices in a closed cabinet away from your oven/stove.

Hi Debra,

Yes! our Flatpacks are resealable.

Hi Spicehouse friends, First of all LOVE your products. Question: I am moving from Texas to St Croix, USVI. A climate with much greater humidity and usually higher shipping cost. I have two questions. 1) what do you recommend as best storage in a humid climate without air conditioning especially for spice blends that contain salt? 2) do flat packs ship free to the USVI?
