An extra special spice shipment left our warehouse earlier this week. 252 jars of premium spices are bound for Sailors and Marines aboard the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman. Spice House customers from 29 states selected and donated the spices. The shipment also included a wonderful collection of spice commentary and greetings for the crew:
“Thank you so much for your service and God speed to each and everyone of you!! Our favorite-go-to spice that we put in EVERYTHING is Back of the Yards! Our great nephew is in the Navy and we are so proud of him!!” –Paul and Donna from Iowa
“We are proud to help the crew of the USS Harry S Truman enjoy a delicious meal. Our son is accepting his appointment to the US Naval Academy in 10 days. Anchors Aweigh!” –Kim from New York
We focused our shipment on condiment spices, since most of the 5,600 people aboard the Truman eat in galleys and do not cook while the ship is at sea. Our customers knew exactly what to do with that culinary challenge:
“I won’t be without Chicago Steak Seasoning in my spice cabinet, great on burgers, steaks, chops etc. yum!” –Rebecca from Iowa
“Ruth Ann’s Muskego Ave. is my go-to seasoning for lots of prepared foods, especially scrambled eggs! We love it.” –Amy from Louisiana
This began with an idea from one of our customers. Thanks to Lisa in Germany for getting us started! We checked with a couple friends in the Navy and got connected with the right folks aboard the Truman. We emailed our customers last Thursday. Orders appeared immediately and kept coming through the weekend. Our warehouse crew hustled to get the shipment packed and out the door on Monday.
Here are a few more crew greetings we included with our shipment:
“To all the crew – thank you all for your service and may this box of amazing flavors make your palates sing while you serve our country.” –Jennifer from Ohio
“We would like to thank you for your invaluable service and know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. It is a wonderful thing to be able to reach out in this small way and hope that you know that our hearts go with you.” –Donna and Tim from Wisconsin
“We are grateful for your service, and commend you for choosing the branch of military that has the best food!” –AMHC Mike from Indiana
Mike is a Navy veteran, as you may have guessed. AMHC stands for Aviation Structural Mechanic (Hydraulic) Chief Petty Officer. Thank you, Mike, for your service and for loading up the Truman with great spices.
Thanks to all the Spice House customers who shared the gift of spice with the Truman crew. Thank you most of all to the women and men who serve our country.
